WARM TONES & A GOLDEN GLOW

Project Description
As part of a substantial renovation to an existing three-storey residence, our work on this home involved close collaboration with the architect, Brendon Gordon. Our brief? A lighting design that would deliver maximum ‘wow’ and complement the natural textures and ocean views found throughout the home. The standout feature of this property is the curving wooden wall and exposed balusters that hug the top and bottom of the main staircase, respectively. These were highlighted through the use of unobtrusive, recessed downlights that follow the curve of the wall and draw the eye to the rich grain and natural variation in the timber. Given the low ceiling height on the first two floors of the home, recessed downlights were used throughout the kitchen, living, and dining areas to create open sightlines to the outdoor spaces. At dusk, the warm tones of the lighting mirror the golden Bay of Plenty sunsets, creating a series of intimate, interconnected spaces when darkness falls.
